Triangle Sheltie Scarf
by Miki Hayes: mailto:mikimm@u.washington.edu

Yarn: I used Hand Spun Sheltie but any fuzzy yarn would more than likely produce the same results. For the spinners who might browse by this page, a Sheltie is a shetland sheepdog. I’m showing it in its natural colors and I did navajo three-ply to make the colors blend into one another better.

The scarf  takes about 2-3 ounces of yarn. And thick & thin yarn looks great, as does fuzzy yarn. It looks really elegant if fastened with a pin. I have a llama pin I used with the llama scarf. Just imagine one made of silk or cashmere. Since it only takes a small amount of yarn you can splurge on the fiber.

Gauge: Not too important

Machine: Brother KX 350 (7mm)
Lace Pattern: You can incorporate any pattern or lace design you like taking care to center it on
the scarf and increase it as you go along.
I used the Hand Manipulated Stitch Book for my pattern inspiration.

Pattern:

Cast on 3 stitches in the middle of the knitting machine. Using the highest tension setting to make the biggest possible stitch.
Knit as follows:
For the first 35 rows increase one stitch at the beginning of each row.
Then increase one stitch each side until you fill up the knitting machine bed. (The KX 350 has 140 needles)
Then knit even for 4 or 5 rows.
Bind Off loosely.
When you are done, you block it and steam it and you have a lovely triangle scarf.

Enjoy, Miki
